Orchards-Vancouver Community Information


Orchards is part of the Evergreen Public Schools District, which houses more than 25,000 students in grades K-12 and is one of the fastest growing districts throughout the state of Washington. The district is home to four high schools, six middle schools, twenty-one elementary schools, one alternative high school, one skills center, one early childhood center and one home choice academy. Evergreen Public Schools takes in students from Orchards as well as from surrounding towns such as Sunset, Silver Star, and Pioneer.

Students looking to excel in a collegiate learning environment have numerous choices located within the area. Clark College is a public institution that offers associate and bachelors degrees in Vancouver, WA, about five miles away from Orchards. Also nearby is Washington State University?s Salmon Creek campus. About eight miles away from Orchards, Concordia University Portland is located in Multnomah County, OR. This Lutheran based university offers bachelors degrees. Other schools include Portland State University, OHSU (Oregon Health & Science University), Western States Chiropractic College, Warner Pacific College, George Fox University, and many more.

Attractions & Points of Interest

There is not a shortage of fun activities in Orchards or within the surrounding cities of Clark County. One of the most popular attractions is the Vancouver Farmer?s Market, which takes place every Saturday from April to October. The market features delicious fresh produce from local farmers, a nursery with beautiful garden plants, live entertainment, crafts and homemade foods. The market is certainly an attraction that is not to be missed in the summer months in Clark County!

History lovers will want to check out the Vancouver Natural Historic Reserve, which is literally a stroll through time as visitors explore the frontier days of Vancouver during the turn of the century when General George C. Marshall and General Grant resided in Officer's Row; WWI and WWII planes parked at Pearson airpark; and stand on the site of the Kaiser Shipyard which built 140 victory ships during WWII.

For those who enjoy a lovely train ride, there is the Lewis & Clark Railway Co., which takes passengers on a stunning ride over the first track ever laid in Clark County. Clark County also has something for music lovers everywhere as the Amphitheater in Clark County features big and small names year round. Some current bands that have recently performed here include Coldplay, Pearl Jam and Def Leppard.

Parks & Recreation

Orchards residents are looking forward to the completion and opening of the brand new Orchards West Park. This five-acre family-friendly park will include a number of picnic benches, an open lawn area, and playground equipment and is being developed using Real Estate Excise Tax funds.

In Clark County, residents enjoy 17 different parks, all which are operated by the Greater Clark Parks District. Vancouver, WA offers an abundance of recreational areas and points of interests, such as Battle Ground Lake. Considered the jewel of the city, this breathtaking body of water holds boating and fishing facilities, camp grounds, picnic areas and equestrian trails. Furthermore, there are a number of hiking trails in Vancouver, including Bells Mountain Trail, a 7.75 mile hike through emerald forests; Discovery Loop Trail, a 2.3 mile journey which passes through Fort Vancouver National Historic Site; and Waterfront Renaissance Trail, a four mile walk that curves through Vancouver?s downtown and ends at the Vancouver shoreline.

Residents also enjoy the Marshall Community Center which features swimming facilities, a fitness center, dance studio, arts and crafts room, and a game room. The Firstenburg Community Center is another hot spot for locals, which holds a swimming pool, fitness center, rock climbing area, and a teen zone.

Golf lovers are well tended to thanks to the Royal Oaks Country Club. This fine course is a championship caliber 18-hole course that has consistently been ranked one of the top five courses within the state of Washington. The club itself holds beautiful seasonal swimming pools, a snack bar, and a fitness center.
